Please see News page for latest information during the Corona Virus situation

Welcome to our new website which we hope to develop over the coming months.

We have added a new protected parent page which will contain news items and more information for parents. Once live the staff will give parents the password.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. We are very proud of our Pre-School Playgroup and Out of School Explorer’s Club, which has been part of our local community for over 50 years.

Our lovely Pre-School Playgroup was established in January 1967 by a group of like-minded parents who wanted to offer local children the physical, emotional, social, communication and intellectual development they needed. Today, we work hard to maintain these values, by providing a small, caring, friendly and inclusive setting which offers our children a fun, exciting and stimulating environment in which to play and learn. We cherish every child as a unique personality and we provide quality care and education which meets their individual needs. We welcome children from 2 years of age until they leave us for primary school. During their time with us, we hope that we give each child the opportunity to learn to judge and extend their capabilities, to explore their limits and experience excitement, nervousness, courage, daring, thrills and real spills within an environment that offers constant flexibility to meet their needs and wants.

Since April 2017 we have developed an Out of School Club for children aged 5 to 12 years and also holiday provision through our Embsay Explorer’s Club.

Our Pre-School Playgroup is a registered, non-profit charity, which continues to be run by a parent management committee. We are also a member of the Early Years Alliance and we were delighted to receive an ‘Outstanding’ judgement from Ofsted for the second time in succession in March 2022.

In their report, Ofsted found the staff team to be “inspirational, highly competent and well qualified,” the parent management committee to be “committed to the pursuit of excellence” and that the children within the setting “make extremely rapid progress across all areas of learning” because “planning and assessment is highly robust, precise and sharply focused”. Ofsted also praised the “superb” partnership between parents and the playgroup, which enabled all the children to feel “secure” and “prepared for the next stage in their learning.”

But don’t just take Ofsted’s word for it!

We’d love you and your child to spend some time with us, to find out what we are really like and to meet and play with our hand-picked team of experienced and friendly practitioners.
